Seema Mathur brings decades of experience as an on-air journalist and filmmaker to her role of teaching TV & Radio Announcing classes. Her on-air experience spans from anchoring CNN’s first webcast and breaking news for CBS affiliates to hosting a local PBS public affairs program. Seema’s specialty in covering healthcare and human rights issues has been recognized with numerous awards, including a National Edward R. Murrow, a Lone Star Emmy, several Associated Press awards, multiple medical journalism awards, and an Amnesty International Human Rights Award.

After fifteen years in daily news, Seema launched Global Voice Productions in 2009 with the mission of sharing the voices of those who need to be heard. Notable projects include extensive reporting on women’s rights and health issues from Egypt, Morocco, India, Kenya, and Liberia. In Liberia, Seema followed the country’s quest for justice and healing after war in the award-winning documentary Camp 72, which she directed and produced. Projects in the United States include journalistic coverage of healthcare and Seema moderating related panels. Global Voice Productions occasionally produces multimedia stories for select clients, including the Deloitte Center for Government Insights.

Throughout her career, Seema has been drawn to opportunities to mentor and teach, from conducting workshops for aspiring journalists post-revolution in Egypt to serving as a mentor and panelist at industry conferences, including SXSW and the Journalism & Women Symposium.

Seema’s work reflects her core value that everyone should have access to healthcare and education, allowing them to reach their full potential.

Seema enjoys serving as an Adjunct Professor at Austin Community College because it allows her to nurture students’ potential while sharing her passion for storytelling.
