Ash Kinney d’Harcourt earned a Ph.D. in Media Studies from UT Austin’s Department of Radio-Television-Film, with a dissertation exploring the politics of gender visibility and representation in popular media across film, television and digital platforms. Ash’s postdoctoral research has focused on how marginalized media-makers navigate and influence shifting media industries, contributing several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters to the field. One of Ash’s greatest passions is teaching, especially the opportunity to foster critical dialogue about how media impacts students’ lived experiences and their own agency as media consumers and creators. Over the past several years, Ash has taught courses on Cinema Studies, the History and Development of Media, Public Speaking and a variety of special topics in Critical Media Studies. Current academic roles include serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Southwestern University, lecturing at UT Austin, and teaching whenever possible at Austin Community College’s RTF department which is home to some of Ash’s favorite students.
