The Art Galleries in collaboration with Texas Sculpture Group is pleased to bring Material Evolution: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group to Gallery 2000 on ACC Highland Campus. This exhibition includes artworks from over twenty Texas Sculpture Group members and highlights an array of traditional and modern techniques in sculpture.
ABOUT OUR JUROR: Lana Meador joined the San Antonio Museum of Art’s curatorial department in 2015 and currently serves as the Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. She has worked on over a dozen exhibitions at SAMA including co-curating Of Country and Culture: The Lam Collection of Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art (2017) and Texas Women: A New History of Abstract Art (2020). She organized the 2018 retrospective Marilyn Lanfear: Material Memory and in 2023 she curated Gateway: Carlos Rosales-Silva, Pase Usted, a site-specific mural that launched SAMA’s Gateway project series. Lana received her BA in English from The University of Texas at Austin and MA in Art History from Texas Christian University.

Del Valle and Hammonds will focus discuss their artistic practice and works, which explore themes such as: gun violence, pollution, and memory.

The Art Galleries (TAG) at ACC and the Texas Sculpture Group are hosting a reception for the Spring 2024 exhibition Material Evolution: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group on Saturday, February 17 at ACC Highland Campus. The reception starts at 6:00pm and is free and open to the public. This event is catered, with live music from our ACC Music Students.

Artists Matthew Isaacson (faculty, ACC) and Valérie Chaussonnet will give tandem artists talks in Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) in conjunction with Material Evolution: Selected Works from Texas Sculpture Group. Isaacson and Chaussonnet will focus on their use of scale in their works, which utilize ceramic and metal materials.

Meeting Place: Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) at ACC Highland Campus
Artists Sarah Hirneisen (faculty, Texas State University) and Erin Cunningham (faculty, University of Texas at Austin) will give tandem artists talks in Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450). Both Hirneisen and Cunningham focus on gender roles and expectations through their artworks, which are included in the spring exhibition Material Evolution: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group.
March 5, 5:00pm - 6:00pm - Representing Women in the Art Museum: Curator Talk with Lana Meador
The Art Galleries at ACC will host a hybrid talk with Lana Meador, Associate Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at the San Antonio Museum of Art, who will dive into her recent research into Texas women in the arts.
About this talk:
Representation in the art museum is two-fold: both the artists included in the museum’s collections and exhibitions and the narratives displayed in its galleries. Lana Meador will share insights into recent exhibitions and acquisitions at the San Antonio Museum of Art that have focused on women artists and the representation of women in art history.
