Penny Hogan is a passionate performer, dedicated educator, and vibrant champion of the vocal arts. A native of Iowa, she graduated with honors from Simpson College with a Bachelor of Music Education in Voice. She went on to earn her Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Opera from the University of Michigan. She is a proud member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Honorary Music Society.

With a career that bridges the stage and the studio, Penny brings decades of experience as a soprano, opera artist, musical theatre performer, recitalist, and oratorio soloist. Her voice has graced some of the country’s most celebrated venues including a guest soloist appearance at Carnegie Hall. She has also performed with opera houses and symphonies from Alaska to Florida and New York to Colorado. Her credits include performances with the Lyric Opera of Dallas, Central City Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Augusta Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Sarasota Opera, and the Kalamazoo Symphony, among many others. She has also shared her talents through educational outreach with New York City Opera and Opera Omaha.

Penny has been recognized for her outstanding artistry and commitment to excellence. She was a finalist in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions, awarded the Shoshana Foundation’s prestigious Richard F. Gold Career Grant, and named among the Outstanding Young Women in America.

Her deep love for teaching led her to serve on the faculties of several institutions, including Texas Christian University, Oral Roberts University, Roanoke College, Simpson College, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Most recently, she retired from her role as Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where she taught Voice, Vocal Literature, Advanced French diction, and co-directed opera productions. She continues to work with aspiring young singers.

In addition to her teaching and performance work, Penny remains actively involved in the vocal community. She is a long-standing member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and has served as Auditions Chair and President for the South Texas Chapter of NATS.

At the heart of her journey is a lasting passion for music and people. “My passion,” she says, “is singing, teaching, and making music with people of all ages.
