DoyleDoyle joined the New School of Music in 1983 as drum instructor, where he also authored a drumset workbook, co-taught the Latin Combo, performed in the school contemporary chamber ensemble, Kaleidasound, and adjudicated for the Slingerland Jazz Drummer Contest while working with individual students in top area high school music programs.

Doyle began teaching Applied Music at ACC in 1990, preparing students for audition, transfer and performing opportunities. He founded the ACC Percussion Ensemble, has performed in collaboration with the Dance Dept. and served as a soloist for ACC dance classes. He has also taught Percussion Class, Chamber Music, Class Piano, Appreciation and Theory courses. Many of his former students have transferred to prestigious music schools, and some perform in high-profile ATX bands.

Doyle is an alumnus of The University of Texas, the University of North Texas, and Texas State University. He has degrees in Performance with Jazz Concentration and Theory- Composition. His principal instrumental teachers were Ed Soph, Jim Hall and John Rauche. He won scholastic awards and awards as a soloist on drumset and vibes. He continued his studies with Alan Dawson, James Black, Billy Hart and Mel Brown.

Doyle has played with Son group and Emilio Martin Trio (Havana Jazz Plaza education tour). He also has done extensive work with eclectic artists Johny Adams, Marcia Ball, Martin Banks, WC Clark,The Coasters, Bobby Doyle, Doug Hall Trio, Bob Hope Orchestra, Lee Konitz, Bob Meyer, Gene Ramey, Big Mama Thornton, and other world music and dance bands.

Doyle has played showcases and concerts in San Francisco, L.A., Mexico, Chicago, New Orleans, Riverboat Casinos, Boston Shell Heritage Festival, Corpus Christi, and the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

Studio recordings include numerous jingles and TV soundtracks in Austin and San Antonio, KLRU jazz documentary films, and the UT piano department jazz educational recordings. Doyle has recorded solo CD’s in various genres.
