Carlos Fernandez
Carlos Fernandez has been an active part of the Austin music community for many years. While at Austin Community College he has taught Music Appreciation and Applied Piano. Before coming to ACC, he was Choir Director at Wm. B. Travis H.S. (Austin I.S.D), directing Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Music History, and teaching Music Theory, Piano, Voice and Guitar. He also served as Chairman of the Fine Arts Department for over 10 years. Additionally, he has been an adjudicator for all Texas Music Educator Association auditions and has helped many students achieve their musical aspirations.
During his career in music he has played in rock bands, been a cocktail jazz pianist/entertainer, sung baritone with Conspirare Symphonic Chorus, Austin Choral Artists, Austin Choral Union Chamber Chorus, and was assistant conductor of the Austin Singers for a season. He also toured Italy with the Morris Beachy Singers and has performed and recorded choral masterworks with noted conductors, Morris Beachy, Robert Shaw, Margret Hillis, Craig Hella Johnson, Peter Bay and even Mitch Miller! Rounding out his singing experience includes performing with the Austin Lyric Chorus in Beethoven’s Fidelio and Puccini’s Turandot.
Mr. Fernandez earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas State University where he studied piano with Dr. Robert Whalin and earning his Master of Music degree from The University of Texas where he studied piano with Gregory Allen.
