Dr. Andrew Normann is an ethnomusicologist whose research focuses on global Black popular music. His dissertation, funded by a Fulbright U.S. Student award, focused on creative entrepreneurship by in the South African music industry. Additionally, his master’s thesis focused on activist hip-hop artists in Detroit, Michigan. He holds a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Texas at Austin and master’s degrees in ethnomusicology and music composition from Bowling Green State University. Currently, Andy teaches American Music with Austin Community college.
