James Montaño is a dramaturg, educator, critic, and playwright formerly based in Boston, MA. He has taught public speaking at Harvard University, and theatre history at the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked in literary management and community works at the Williamstown Theatre Festival (’21 and ’22) and in education and engagement at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. James served as dramaturg for productions at ART, Harvard University, and Boston Conservatory as well as various freelance projects around New England, New Mexico, and Texas, and has written theatrical criticism for the Theatre Times and HowlRound. His training is from UMass Amherst, ART/Harvard, and the Moscow Art Theatre. James is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Performance as Public Practice at The University of Texas at Austin.
