Internship and Project Courses
MUSB-2386 Internship & MUSB-2450 Commercial Music Project
The Internship and Commercial Music Project are capstone courses for all Associate of Applied Science majors in the Audio Technology and Industry department. These capstone courses are meant to bridge students to their career as they wrap up their time at ACC.
While all of our associate degrees have these courses in their degree plan, we only have a requirement for students to take one of the two. For example, a Live Sound student would benefit more from an internship more than a project. A Digital Composition student would likely further benefit from a project. If a student doesn’t take one of the courses, they will need to replace it with another 3 credit hour class for internship and another 4 credit hour for project.
Questions about which course is best for you? Please email our Department Specialist, Haley, at [email protected] with your ACCeID.
MUSB-2450 Commercial Music Project (CMP) Course
During the project course, students create a project of their choice based on what they’ve learned at ACC and what they’d like to focus on once they graduate. This project will look different for each student depending on their majors. Some examples of past projects are:
- an Audio Engineering student recording an EP for a band.
- a performance student booking shows, preparing an EPK, creating promotional materials, and analyzing social media metrics
- a music business student booking and promoting a tour
- a digital composition student writing and producing an EP
You will work one on one with the instructor and they will provide you with feedback on your project throughout the semester. The course has no required meeting times, but you will schedule several meetings throughout the semester.
Internship
During the internship course, students will work 16-19 hours a week in a paid or unpaid internship. The student is expected to apply to companies on their own, but can work with the instructor to discuss opportunities and companies. During the internship course, there are no required meeting times. Students will update the instructor weekly and have some assignments on Blackboard through out the semester.
Students are encouraged to utilize career services to help with resumes. On their website, you can request an appointment with their staff. They are located on the first floor of building 4000 at the Highland Campus and their email is [email protected].
