Spring 2026<\/em>\u00a0Registration Schedule for Current\/Former Students:<\/h3>\n

Spring registration is now open for ALL students through January 20.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s some things you should know:<\/h2>\n

UX Students: A note about restricted classes<\/h3>\n

Please pay careful attention to the spring UX courses that are restricted to P-Tech students attending Navarro High School. The Self Service system will allow you to plan<\/em> these classes, but they are restricted so you will not be able to register<\/em> for them. Please read course notes carefully while looking at the schedule. These courses will open to general registration at a later date.<\/p>\n

You can email Robin Cuthbert Lee (robin.cuthbertlee@austincc.edu) with any questions about enrollment in one of these classes.<\/p>\n

Graphic Design Students: Do NOT register for Visual Design<\/h3>\n

Graphic Design students<\/strong> who are eligible should take ARTC 1379: Design for Screens<\/strong>. This class teaches students about designing for websites, and digital media. Students in the Graphic Design program should enroll in this course even if your degree map lists Visual Design<\/strong>. The Design for Screens class was created specifically for you!<\/p>\n

Visual Design students<\/strong> who are eligible should take UXUI 1371: Visual Design<\/strong>. This class teaches students about user interface, interaction, and variable content, amongst other things. The Visual Design class is geared specifically to you!<\/p>\n

Planning to take Art History II?<\/h3>\n

If you plan on taking Art History II in the spring semester<\/strong>: you should register for ARTS1304: Art History II section 004<\/strong>\u00a0taught by Michelle Kaiserlian.<\/p>\n

This specific section covers the history of commercial art<\/em>, and is designed with Visual Communication students in mind.<\/p>\n

In order to register, you must request clearance from Viscom administrator, Robin Lee at robin.cuthbertlee@austincc.edu<\/a><\/p>\n

(Art History II is not required for UX students)<\/p>\n

When should Visual Design students take portfolio?<\/h3>\n

If you have taken ARTC 2376: Visual Design for Digital Media then you are eligible to take ARTC 2270: Portfolio Development.<\/p>\n

Not sure if you\u2019re ready to take Portfolio? See an advisor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Planning to take Design Communication I?<\/h3>\n

ARTC 1317: Design Communication I is a restricted class. Students are eligible for this class once they have taken Typography AND Design Concepts.<\/p>\n

If you are currently enrolled in Typography (and have already taken\/are currently taking Design Concepts) then you will automatically be able to register for Design Communication I. If you took Typography in a previous semester, then you must request clearance from Robin Cuthbert Lee:<\/p>\n

Planning to take Portfolio?<\/h3>\n

ARTC 2270: Portfolio Development is a restricted class. Students are eligible for this class once they have taken Design Communication II or Visual Design for Digital Media.<\/p>\n

If you are currently enrolled in either class then you will automatically be able to register for Portfolio. If you took either of these classes in a previous semester, then you must request clearance from Robin Cuthbert Lee:<\/p>\n

The other pre-requisite for Portfolio is Career Exploration.<\/p>\n

Planning on taking Internship in the Spring Semester?<\/h3>\n

If you intend on taking IMED-2388 Internship in the spring semester then you should prepare for Internship by taking \u2018Strategies for Viscom Jobs\u2019 (FREE) class in the fall semester. You should also develop application materials (resume, cover letter, and mini-portfolio), and begin applying for internships starting at the beginning<\/strong> of the fall semester. Read this internship guide<\/a>\u00a0to get full instructions on how to prepare for Internship.<\/span><\/p>\n

The spring section of ‘Strategies for Viscom Jobs’ is still being confirmed, but you can still plan to register. Register for the course HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n

Should I take Internship or Design Studio 2?<\/h3>\n

Graphic Design and Visual Design students can choose between taking either IMED-2388 Internship or ARTC-2377 Design Studio 2. Both courses are excellent options for gaining professional experience, working with clients, and building your portfolio. But there are some key differences you should consider when deciding which course is the best fit for you.
