Sculpture<\/strong> focuses on creating an artwork by solving three-dimensional problems utilizing both traditional material values and modern technological innovations. A continuously evolving art form, it relies on the understanding of spatial relationships and the physical manipulation and transformation of materials. As a discipline, sculpture has changed and adapted over time in terms of materials, function, and relative status within the arts. The field of sculpture today relies on historical traditions and contemporary innovations, and its scope has widened dramatically as new materials, techniques, and concepts have been developed. Artists who embark on the study of sculptural forms are taught to develop practical and critical thinking skills while advancing their own aesthetic expression of contemporary and traditional sculptural practices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Sculpture I (ARTS 2326)<\/strong> is an introduction to the language of three-dimensional
\nform and space through hands-on creative studio experience that establishes practical skills. Beginning with traditional techniques and materials, students develop strategies around problem-solving and achieving their artistic goals. While learning to use hand and power tools properly and safely, students explore a wide variety of sculptural media, techniques, and processes such as woodworking, silicone mold-making, Installation design, and additive construction techniques. The sculpture facilities include three specialized areas designed to work with a diverse range of media. Students have access to a fully-equipped woodworking shop, a plaster and mold-making area, two fabrication rooms, and an indoor ventilated spray booth. The facility is furnished with the safest equipment available, and trained faculty and staff supervise a wide range of sculptural media and the maintenance of the facilities and equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n
